Fall CSA Week #6

Thursday October 29th: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

With the arrival of the colder weather, we have been focused on moving animals into their winter pastures and paddocks. Cows moved a few weeks ago from Narnia (the pasture across the road from the main farm) to the pasture a mile or so from the farm. They are still finding greens to munch on, however Jav has already been dipping into the winter hay to ensure they are well fed.

Goats also moved from the pasture out back into the nursery paddock by the farm stand. You can easily see them and visit them when you stop in at the farm stand

Friday we celebrated Jav’s birthday with treats and food, sun, and some laughter. It was also a time to say goopdbye to Ridge and Franconia who added so much positive thoughful work on the farm this season. We are thankful they were partr of the farm team. We hope to have them back next season!

Evrald emodies the farm logo: Food with Integrity - Grown with a Passion”. His thoughtfulness, thoroughness, dedication to quality, and overall presence will be missed on the farm. We are thrilled he is back home with family and are excited to have him back next season. He harvested 99.9% of the cherry tomatoes this summer…literally thousands of pounds of cherry tomatoes.

He arrived in February, playing an integral part in ushering the farm into this season, from seedroom to greenhouses, to field planting, animals, washroom, etc. Thank you Evrald!

We have been focused on continuing to clean up the farm, resetting greenhouses and gardens, getting ahead so we can hit the ground running next spring. The harvest also continues. We still have peppers and beans in heated greenhouses, and plenty of greens in unheated spaces. The final beds of carrots made it out of the ground and all storage crops were moved into the root cellar.

GH4 had salanova head lettuce, sun hemp cover crop, cherry tomatoes, and basil this season. Overwintered scallions have been planted in the edge beds to be harvested next year.

After a season of determinate tomatoes, GH6 has paper pot spinach, direct seeded kale (under the row cover) and direct seeded spinach for this fall and next spring.

We share 809 Brook Road with Woodland Community School. CHILDREN AND PARENTS MAY BE STILL IN AND AROUND THE DRIVEWAY WHEN CSA PICKUP BEGINS, PLEASE BE CAREFUL NAVIGATING THE PARKING LOT.

Laurie shared a picture of her “carved” pumpkin and said “Since we have no young kids at home and the grands are half across the globe, here is our picture of what we did with our pumpkin! Tonight’s supper after CSA pickup! Baked and stuffed with Italian sausage, cornbread stuffing, spinach and a custard of eggs, cream and herbs!”

Thank you for sharing, looks absolutely amazing!
