With the summer solstice just a month or so away, we have noticed the day light hourss getting longer over each 24 hour period. More plants have made it into the ground, although we are waiting another week to plant our PYO flower garden and Zuchinni and winter squash so we don’t have to potentially figure out how to protect these plants next week during a forecasted cold night.
The sun and water have been encouraging growth not only in our crops, however in the pastures and lawn spaces on the 809 brook road property. Jim has been out mowing already and wyatt again dons the weedwacker. The last thing we need is more dandelion seeds blowing into gardens and greenhouses.
We are excited to bring you asparagus this week along with some familiar green spring goodies.
The pruning continues! Ideally done once a week to maintain and help our tomatoes thrive. We are all excited to see the green cherry tomatoes starting to turn!
After all the weeding and amending one of the first outside crops of spring is popping up. We typically harvest Asparagus through the summer solstice and then stop to give it time to grow and strengthen roots over the summer months.
Peas and radishes enjoying some sun!
When all veggies and greens were safely in the walk-in fridge, Jeannie took a moment to replenish tags.
Some organization and cleaning up has been happening this week. Tradition continues as Wyatt found himself embarking on his first day back for the season activity of weed-wacking the grass around the greenhouses. Beautification!
Jav and Colin with a little help from Tim have been building industrial shelves out back by our pole barn for greenhouse parts and pieces, fence posts, fencing, greenhouse plastic, landscape fabric and any other odds and ends that need an organized home.
We welcomed more piglets this past weekend. Mom is attentive and the piglets are doing their job: eating and sleeping.
