Garlic

About 250 lbs of seed garlic went in the ground over at the oxbow. Utilizing the water wheel transplanter to dibble in the holes and spacing, Shawn, Jav, and Evrald, quickly rallied in the cooler temperatures this past weekend and planted all our 2026 garlic.

Shawn and Tim prepped the beds in Garden 2 at the oxbow last week, spreading amendments and cultivating any weeds. We worked to deplete the weed seed bank in this section of the garden all season long, allowing seeds to germinate before turning them in. In the next week or so, we will cover the planted garlic with a layer of Compost and then cover with row cover to protect the garlic seed this coming winter.

Before we can plant, we break up the bulbs of garlic into separate cloves. Once planted, each clove will germinate in the spring and turn into a harvestable bulb of garlic next season. We typically save the larger bulbs of garlic as seed garlic for ourselves and sell the rest.

We are fortunate to be working on another greenhouse. Inhabiting most of G2 and some of G6, this new to us greenhouse (GH11) will house spring seedlings mainly for our spring seedling sale. Tim has been setting ground posts. We hope to have much of the structure raised in the next week.

Covering the CAT tunnel was one of the many things to check off the list as we close out this season. Also Sophie is back and began collecting soil samples which we will get tested to guide us as we nurture and care for our soil going into 2026.
